Wisconsin – Walkergate Continued Saga

Yes and then hold him accountable to the law. No pardons for this one.

Unless something very untoward should happen the tea bagger Republican governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker has a recall election coming in the not too distant future,

There are other problems for Walker too. An ongoing FBI investigation of his time as a County Executive still is hanging over both him and his cronies. The investigation continues even after an ex Walker aide plus two others were charged in what we at luna-canus now refer to as Walkergate.

Now Walkergate has grown again as two more former Walker aides are charged with fundraising on government time. This doesn’t look like the end of things either.

From Talking Points Memo;

Two more people have been charged in the investigation of former aides to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), from his time as Milwaukee County Executive — including the person whose original alleged misconduct appears to have set off the whole business to begin with.

The charges were announced Thursday by District Attorney John Chisholm (D). Walker’s former deputy chief of staff Kelly Rindfleisch, and former constituent services coordinator Darlene Wink, are charged with illegally raising money while in a county building and using government equipment to do so.

Wink is charged with fundraising for Walker, while Rindfleisch is charged with fundraising for a whole different candidate in another race — then state Rep. Brett Davis, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2010 Republican primary for Lieutenant Governor. As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel points out, after Davis lost the primary he has since become Walker’s state Medicaid director.

Then Thursday afternoon it was disclosed that one of the former aides has accepted a plea bargain to lessen charges and agreed to testify against others. In other words folks, this former aide is singing like the proverbial canary.

From Talking Points Memo; (emphasis mine)

An official letter to Wink’s attorney from an Assistant District Attorney describes the office’s position: That in their view, her actions would support felony charges. However, “Ms. Wink has provided information concerning a related investigation involving the destruction of digital evidence,” and she is also “in possession of further information as it relates to possible future prosecution(s) and proceeding(s).”

As such, the D.A.’s office planned to charge her with misdemeanors, to which she will plead guilty. In exchange for her guilty plea and further testimony, they will not seek her imprisonment. She might, however, be required to reimburse the county for her pay from time she had spent on political activity.

The letter does not specify what exact instances of destruction of digital evidence are involved. It does name some other investigations in which she will be expected to testify, such as former Walker aide Tim Russell (see below) — but with the caveat that her cooperation would not be limited to those cases.

Whoa! Wisconsin is really heating up for Walker and his crony administration. Walkergate has all the earmarks of spreading further and further up the ladder.

From Host Madison; (emphasis mine)

Gov. Scott Walker had plenty of choices to fill the open position on the District II Court of Appeals bench. But he chose his former legislative seat mate, Mark Gundrum.

Gundrum’s an able political player, to be sure. He and Walker were close political and ideological allies in the Legislature and in the broader work of the Republican Party.

But Walker is moving Gundrum up the nonpartisan judicial ladder awfully quickly. Gundrum, 41, served in the Assembly from 1999 until he was elected as a trial court judge in Waukesha County Circuit Court in 2010. He has served only a year on the bench, and there are still legitimate concerns about whether he has put his partisan days behind him,

When he announced that he was running for that judgeship in 2009, Gundrum made it clear that he wanted to be an ideologically driven jurist. “I think it would be good to have a person with a solid conservative view of the law,” the Republican stalwart said.

I know, it doesn’t seem related, does it? Just wait and read on, because I think it is very related and would like to know what you readers think.

From BloggingBlue about the former aide charged with embezzlement;(emphasis mine)

What’s more, Walker asserted he did not know Tim Russell was involved with the Heritage Guard Preservation Society, but as seen clearly on Page 7 of the criminal complaint, Walker as County Executive co-signed a “Memorandum of Agreement” giving the Heritage Guard Preservation Society control over the operation of the event called Operation Freedom, including that event’s funding. While Walker denied any knowledge of Russell’s involvement with the Heritage Guard Preservation Society, the “Memorandum of Agreement” County Executive Walker signed handing over control of Operation Freedom was co-signed by Tim Russell in his capacity as President of the Heritage Guard Preservation Society, so it’s hard to believe Scott Walker didn’t know Tim Russell was involved with that group.

Despite Gov. Walker’s attempt to spin today’s criminal charges involving one of his close former aides, he left more questions unanswered than he actually resolved.

Okay, now let’s tie this all together. Mark Gundrum, the judge appointed so quickly to the Appeals Court by Walker happened to serve in Iraq while he was a Wisconsin legislator. Okay, no big deal you might think.

Now it gets interesting. Mark Gundrum donated his salary from the legislature to—Operation Freedom. The amount he donated was about $28,000. This was a big part of the funds that ended up being transferred from the American Legion group to Russell’s Heritage Guard Preservation Society, from where Russell embezzled it.

Can anyone say political slush fund? Gundrum contributes $28,000 to a Walker slush fund disguised as a charity. The money gets embezzled by Walker cronies. How coincidental that Walker appoints Gundrum to a seat on the state Appeals Court as soon as an opportunity presented itself.

During the famous Watergate investigation by reporters Woodward and Bernstein they were told to follow the money. The Walker people aren’t quite as good at money laundering as the Nixon people were so its glaringly obvious and easy to follow the money.

I could be totally wrong and you can draw your own conclusions…..I’m just sayin’.

Cat Killed for Humans Politics

A cat killed in Arkansas was abused because of his human’s politics! The cat killed was an innocent family pet. The cat killed was a children’s companion. The cat killed was loved by his human family.

The big, bad and so ignorant tea baggers showed their true yellow belles recently. I say they are tea baggers because the mind set fits too well for anyone else. At the very least they are wing nuts of some variety.

For some reason I am not stunned that it was in Arkansas. After all lynch mobs are no longer tolerated. So how do they seek to intimidate liberal democratic and forward thinking candidates?

They get the family pet, bash its head in and paint the word “liberal” on its side.

If you are not into insulting people then turn away from this post now because I am about to pop a cork!

I am addressing this to the “men” that killed the family pet.

First let me say you are cowards. Instead of facing a man in a debate that you obviously feel you have no mental capacity to win you killed his cat.

BING: you are Ignorant, mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, crossed eyed, buck toothed, inbred,  hillbilly, morons. You are the lowest form of slime and something that normal people would be disgusted scraping off their shoe heel. Your liver is as yellow as your jello molded spine and your are dirt crawling cowards!

WORD: Stand up and grow a pair that you never had before (a brain would be handy also). Confront the man in an intelligent conversation of views if you have more than the ape brain your brother and sister/ mother and father gave you. Then you might, just might be considered a human being.

PRAY: Kneel down before whatever god you worship and beg forgiveness because all creatures are His or Hers, depending on how you look at things. Pray that you will only face criminal charges for what you have done. If I knew who your lowlife ass was I would arrest you myself. I would hand you over to the law in the same condition that you laid that poor creature onto its persons door. The difference would be that instead of liberal painted on your hide I would paint the word baboon.

I doubt you will ever answer me because I know you cannot read and I am a man and not some poor mewling creature you can torture and kill. I, and the rest of the world know that your penis does not function and you are destined to be a killer of men as so many who have tortured animals before you have become. At the least we all can take solace in the fact that you cannot breed more of your kind.

You should be put down now like the curs you are. You obviously cannot function in bed, in polite society or in a community. It is better we are rid of you. This is after all, a modern nation that has reached beyond your Neanderthal brain. Please do not tempt me by presenting your cowardly flesh before me, you really are not worth a person going to jail or prison.

If you did ever meet me or one of the normal people of the world, you would lose badly.

Why?

Because neither I or they are family pets. We can and will fight back. But be careful, there are a lot of us out here who will fight back for the poor cat or dog you come into contact with so just watch your backs.

You can read more about this at The Republic & at candidate Aden’s site

.Mark my words, one way or another you will be shown for the coward you are and brought to justice.

And that is your whole problem.

The Obama State of the Union

Before we begin this post, please note, there is now a page on luna-canus in the menu bar with the text of last nights State of the Union Address along with the Republican response. In case you would like to read or study it at your leisure, want to print a copy or whatever.

Yesterday the Internet was buzzing with predictions about President Obama’s State of the Union speech to be given last evening.

Which Obama would we see? What would he want for this last year of this term? It seemed every pundit dead or alive, who ever spoke about politics was sharing their opinions.

Today the Internet is buzzing with responses to President Obama’s SOTU speech. A quick look at the popular political sites will show you a plethora of views on the subject.

Typically, most Republicans, right wing nuts, tea baggers, and generally crazies are adamantly against everything the President had to say. This holds true across their groups, even if hey didn’t watch, listen to or read the speech. Obama said it so it is wrong. We must stand against him. Besides, you know (audible whisper) he’s black! Yes, my dear, black! so he can’t be right about anything. That would be against the laws of nature, don’t cha know.

Also typically, there are some naysayers on the Democratic side, too. They aren’t as mouth foaming rabid as the Republican side, but they didn’t like what they heard and are most anxious to share their opinion with you.

Now let’s get down to what this small town blog thinks.  Obama ruled! Yes, there I said it, Obama ruled!

As Republican House Speaker John Boehner sat behind the President looking like he just took a big swill of lemon juice, Obama ruled. While Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor sat in the audience looking like a spiteful four year old on a temper tantrum forced time out, Obama ruled. As the Republican Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell sat in the audience looking like a sick turtle during a prostate exam, Obama ruled.

They have to all face it. Last night The State of the Union was a wonderful speech, it hit the right tone with the country and I would dare say, it brought some voters back into the Obama fold.

As is always the case with a speech of this kind, we now wait to see just exactly which of the outlined ideas will receive support and then traction. I can’t get myself to believe much will go anywhere because of the Republican obfuscation and obstruction. But then this is an election year, so even the impossible might happen. .

One thing I do believe is President Obama will do as much as he can through signing statements and executive orders.  That  way of getting things done is limited and can’t do nearly enough. But it can show where Obama wants to go and what he is trying to accomplish.

Just last week the Internet denizens showed what can be accomplished by a truly huge public lobbying of the House and Senate. Scare them enough and they will listen to voters.

We just might have to make public outcry of the same size the norm rather than the exception. In fact, that would be a good thing…….a very good thing, indeed.

I mean this. When any president does what is right for the majority of the people, we owe him at least this. I intend to have this man's back this election year, period.

A Leaner Military Pt.2

With the announcement of planned budget cuts to the United States Military President Obama is facing off with war hawks, big business and the majority of the Republican party. In essence he is going toe to toe with those who have made war a business in our nation and not an option of last resort.

In pt.1 of this series we covered the military contractors and the over trillion dollars spent on them in the last decade. That money could have been spent on pay raises, better health provisions and a bolstering of the number of troops for our armed forces. Instead in an unprecedented move it went to mercenaries who are paid more than our soldiers and follow no law or code of conduct other than their religious zealousness or their corporate policy. For the first time in our nations history our troops are being forced to fight side by side with rouges who answer to no one and are not held accountable for their actions.

What will President Obama’s new policy mean for the military? It means bringing our fighting forces into the 21′st century. He seeks to concentrate efforts on intelligence gathering, reducing nuclear weapons, counter terrorism and cyber-warfare. These are all strategies that look to the future of how our wars will be fought.

What President Obama’s new policy will not mean is any sort of drastic reduction in our offensive ability. We will still have the largest nuclear weapons stockpile in the world and the means to deliver it. We will still have the largest navy in the world and in fact our navy will still be larger than the next 13 nations combined. Our nation will still posess the two largest air powers in the world: The United States Air Force and surprise, The United States Navy. Our nation will not be reducing our ability to reach out to any corner of the world and destroy what we please.

However, this is a new age of warfare and we’d better be ready to engage in it. If Iran gets a nuclear weapon…what will that mean? North Korea has had them for several years..at what price? No matter how insane or twisted up in an ideology a nation may be, they cannot fail to see that lobbing one old style atomic bomb at our nation would result in their entire nation being nuked into a pile of slag.

So where would a nuclear, chemical or other attack come from? The same place from which the 9/11 attack came. Not from a nation, though one may sponsor it. It would come from a single person or from a small group of dedicated people willing to die in the effort to harm our nation.

That is not a threat our military is designed or equipped for. Why? That is not their job. The mission of the military is to fight and win wars..period. They are not a police agency and are forbidden to deploy on our own soil via the United States Constitution.

These threats fall under the jurisdiction of our law enforcement world wide. That is an intelligence community that has had many colossal failures in the last few years.

They did not foresee the 9/11 attacks and failed there. They did not know that North Korea was going to detonate its first nuclear weapon and failed there. Aside from a few brave people who told the Bush-Cheney regime the truth and were betrayed for it (they told the then President that Saddam Hussein had purchased yellow cake and possessed WMD’s)… another massive failure.

Several things are clear. We need a much stronger and more advanced intelligence community. After all knowledge is power. We also need to be able to counter not armies but small groups of committed persons. Again that is not the job of our military.

Next, we need to move away from the cold war weapons that make tons of money for our big companies. We need a leaner and more mobile military to face small groups of individuals, not just the ability to bomb the hell out of an entire city.

I feel that President Obama is leading us in the right direction but will be facing an uphill battle from Republicans as he has on every other issue. You can read more about President Obama’s announcement at Daily Kos.

Each star ia a military base. Yes, we could use some paring down.
