Al Franken is Going to DC

Posted under National Happenings,Video by brian on Tuesday 30 June 2009 at 6:21 pm

Congratulations Senator-Elect Al Franken!  Finally former Senator Norm Coleman has given in and admitted the truth.  Hurry and get to DC Senator Franken because we really need your voice in the Senate.  You have a lot to do and we know you are up to the challenge.  Do the late Paul Wellstone proud.  And while you are at it show some of the chicken hearted Dems what a man of the people really does, says and stands for.  A lot of us are counting on you.

Norm Coleman’s concession speech is below:

President Barack Obama’s statement:

“I look forward to working with Senator-Elect Franken to build a new foundation for growth and prosperity by lowering health care costs and investing in the kind of clean energy jobs and industries that will help America lead in the 21st century.”

Congratulations to all the citizens of Minnesota.  Your voice has finally been heard.

More Michelle Bachmann Crazy

Posted under Right Wing Nuttery,Uncategorized,Video by brian on Monday 29 June 2009 at 4:47 pm

I really think this woman is crazy as a loon.  But even more than that, the woman actually is frightening.  Its not only her crazy ideas and ramblings, its her vacant reptilian eyes.  Is she from another planet?  Is she even human at all?  Watch this video and you be the judge.

Good News for Wolves

Posted under environment by brian on Monday 29 June 2009 at 3:34 pm

As I have told my readers before, my mother is an advocate for animals and she has a blog at http://www.fluffyfeet.net.  She is promoting knowledge about pets and pet adoption as well as passing along information about environmental struggles.

I will post her environmental updates on this blog to share the news, good or bad.  I got this e-mail forwarded from her this morning.  Today it is good news and I am posting it here.  All environmentalists, animal advocates and tree huggers, please keep up the good work!

Victory for Great Lakes wolves!

We’re starting this week with very good breaking news: This morning we won a tremendous victory saving wolves in the Great Lakes.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has signed a legal settlement putting wolves in Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin back on the endangered species list.

Without federal protection, the door was open to wolves being slaughtered at the hands of state agencies, livestock owners, and trophy hunters. The agreement is a strong positive step from an administration that has, so far, been disappointing in its treatment of endangered species in general and wolves in particular. In fact, we are still in court over the administration’s stripping of Endangered Species Act protection from northern Rockies wolves. More on that later.

This victory has been a long time coming. In 2005 we won a court order striking down the Bush administration’s weakening of protections for Great Lakes wolves from “endangered” to “threatened.” In response, the administration removed all protection in 2007. We went back to court, and last year won a legal order striking Bush down again and restoring full protection. Then, to our dismay, the Obama administration bowed to the anti-wolf lobby, removing all protection again this April. We sued yet again, and today the administration agreed to reverse itself.

Will the administration make another run at allowing Great Lake wolves to be killed? It’s too early to tell, but we’ll keep a close eye on them. I can only hope the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has finally realized that we will fight them to the end to keep wolves from being slaughtered — not only in the Great Lakes, but in the northern Rockies and the Southwest as well.

We couldn’t have done it without your help. Many, many thanks for the part you’ve played in keeping these wolves wild and safe.

All my best, and have a great week,

Kierán Suckling
Executive Director

P.S. If you’d like to make a gift to support our ongoing work to protect wolves, click here. Our team of scientists, advocates, and lawyers will put it to good use championing protection for these magnificent animals — and winning more victories.

Thank a Liberal Today

Posted under Hypocrisy, economy by brian on Friday 26 June 2009 at 9:54 pm

Mt Rushmore 2

Have you ever stopped to think what the United States has gained from having Liberals as part of its citizenry? Try a little experiment tomorrow.

When you get up in the morning, instead of just going through your day on auto-pilot, think about the things you are using or doing and how they came to be. Let us focus on a typical day for Jennifer our completely made-up heroine. Jennifer lives in a typical medium size town that just a few years ago was in the sticks.

It is still very early when Jennifer gets out of bed. She flips on the lights in her bedroom so she can see to get around. She then goes into the kitchen and puts coffee on to brew. Then into the bathroom to shower, brush her teeth, etc. She thinks ahead to her busy day as she dries her hair.

Stop. Jennifer should thank a liberal for the electricity that gives power to her lights and coffee maker. It was the Liberals that put through rural electrification for small towns and people in rural areas. Her home was in the sticks not so long ago and had no electricity.

While she is at it, Jennifer should thank a liberal for the clear, clean water from her shower, sink and in her toilet. It was the Liberals that put through minimum water quality standards.

Jennifer has gotten ahead of us. She has dropped her young son at school and her grandmother at the clinic for her medical appointment. She has deposited her unemployment check in the bank and has just come out of the grocery store where she used her food stamps for purchases. Things are really tough right now all over the country and she is thinking she may have to move to a big city in order to find a job. She takes the faster highway route home across the bridge and past the river dam.

Jennifer, your grandmother can afford her clinic visit because of Medicare and her residence because of her Social Security. Your unemployment check and food stamps are keeping you afloat until you get another job. Your son is benefiting from public education. That job you lost at least paid minimum wage and you worked 8 hour days and a forty hour work week. You had paid holidays and overtime pay if you were asked to work past the legal hours. Your daughter is going to college in the fall thanks to student loans and your father bought the house you now live in after WWII with a VA Loan. That was after he attended school to learn a trade on the GI Bill. The account you deposited your unemployment check into is insured by the FDIC. All these things came from liberals, so give them a big thank you. Because, where would you be without these programs?

Also remember Jennifer, every bridge, dam, building, road and sidewalk put in during the Great Depression was thanks to liberals.

After Jennifer puts her groceries away, she stuffs some things in the trunk of her car and heads to a meeting at her Church. Tonight they are making signs for the demonstration that will take place on Monday . Tuesday is the election and she wants to help make sure that no one will be elected that might raise taxes. They are taking enough from people now. Especially with this Liberal President in office.

Jennifer, while you tack together your protest signs this evening, thank a liberal for the women’s right to vote and take another minute to say, “Thanks for defending my civil liberties so I can go out and demonstrate.”

Then take another minute and try to think of any programs of benefit to you that the Conservatives fought to get  enacted into law.

Enough Michael Jackson Already

Posted under National Happenings by brian on Friday 26 June 2009 at 6:07 pm

Turning the channel today to CNN it appears to be the Michael Jackson network.  Wolf Blitzer just announced his upcoming stories:   Michael Jackson, businessman,  What a former manager saw in him, and Why was Ronald Reagan drawn to Jackson?

Yes, he was a great entertainer.  Yes he was a great singer.  No, he was not a saint or worthy of bumping REAL news like what is going on in our government or on the streets of Iran for more than a few hours. As great a singer as he was, his fame was as tarnished as his reputation.  His great deeds gave him the chance to cover shadows every bit as great.

For news networks to pre-empt regular programming for a full twenty four hour cycle to replay the same crap over and over and over and over about the death of a mostly tarnished former star is unworthy of a news network and a disservice to the viewers that tune into it.

Come Monday, Michael Jackson will still be dead but will you know the results of the vote on energy that the Congress is voting on today?  This real news is only getting the occasional plug giving way to interviews with former Jackson photographers from the 80′s and 90′s and others with even the most tenuous tie to the Pop star.  Quite honestly, who gives a flying f**k what they have to say?  Those interviews should be on E, not CNN or MSNBC.  They are quite honestly NOT news.

CNN was not the only one guilty of this disservice.  MSNBC pre-empted Countdown and Maddow to keep replaying the same footage and commentary over and over and over again and again and again.  I have not seen news coverage this repetative scince the attacks on 9/11.  On that date, a national tragedy to say the least, the repeating of the same news was fitting.  The death of one man is not.

As news networks vie to canonize Michael Jackson and ignore his darker side they deprive us of REAL news in the REAL world.  They did their job when they reported his death.  They mock the title of news network with the continuing shunning of real news to repeat the same old shit over and over about a man who, though great in some ways, was very twisted in others.

Michelle Bachmann Strikes Again

Posted under Fox Bull Plop,Right Wing Nuttery,Video by brian on Thursday 25 June 2009 at 8:55 pm

This time she is on about the census.  Oh nos! Dey gonna lock us all up in camps like the Japanese during WWII!  Be afwaid, be very, very afwaid!

I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t seem to me as though there is much going on in her mind that is connected to the real world.  Where was she while Bush was doing his best to dismantle the Bill of Rights and using the Constitution for toilet paper?

Look in this woman’s eyes.  There is nothing behind them but empty.  Personally, I blame Reagan.  He is the one that cut so much funding for mental health and let so many ill people out on the streets.  Or….maybe its just something in the water there in Minnesota.  After all they also gave us Norm Coleman and the saga of the never ending election.

Watch the video and see what you think.

Republican Moral Hypocriscy

Posted under Hypocrisy,Right Wing Nuttery by brian on Wednesday 24 June 2009 at 9:21 pm

Just to make Governor Sanford (R-SC), Senator Ensign (R-NV), Senator Vitter (R-LA), former Senator Craig (R-ID) and former US Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) feel less alone, I am posting here a partial list and a link to a full list of Republican examples of Family Values.  Please note the list is not current.  But it does give you a good idea of the rot within the Republican Party, including aides, volunteers, elected officials and their pastors.  It did not start with these latest scandals.

Please note that a lot of the links may not work, sinply because they have expired.  But the list is well researched and  enough links do work that you get the idea.

Here is the partial list:

Edison Misla Aldarondo, Republican legislator from Puerto Rico, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for molestation of his daughter and her friend for eight-year period starting when they were 9. Full Article
Randal David Ankeney, Republican activist from Colorado, arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child with force. He faces 6 charges related to getting a 13-year-old girl stoned on pot and then having sex with her. Source Also accused of sexually assaulting another girl. Denver ABC Article

Dick Armey (R-Texas), former professor, has been accused by The Dallas Observer of sexually harassing female students.

Jim Bakker, televangelist with Pat Robertson at Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting network. Committed adultery with Jessica Hahn [1] and then used charitable donations to pay her hush money[2]. Fellow televangelists say he’s gay. [3][4]Indicted on 23 federal charges of fraud, tax evasion, and racketeering [5].

Merrill Robert Barter, Republican County Commissioner from Maine, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact and assault on a teenage boy. Booth Bay Register Article

Bob Barr, Republican Congressman from Georgia. Sponsored the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act, saying “The flames of hedonism, the flames of narcissism, the flames of self-centered morality are licking at the very foundation of our society, the family unit.” Was married three times. Paid for his second wife’s abortion. Failed to pay child support to the children of his first two wives and while married to his third and present wife was photographed licking whipped cream off of strippers at his inaugural party.

Merrill Robert Barter, Republican County Commissioner, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact and assault on a teenage boy. Booth Bay Register Article

Robert Bauman, Republican congressman and anti-gay activist from Maryland, was charged with having sex with a 16-year-old boy he picked up at a gay bar. Source: Washington Blade

Parker J. Bena, Republican activist and Bush Elector from Virginia, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography (including children as young as 3 years old) on his home computer and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and fined $18,000. Conservative Babylon

To read the entire list go here.

It is very enlightening to see the number of references to sex with children.  This from the people who were so worried sbout the effect of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal on the youngsters of this country.

All Republicans should wake up and purge their party of these types of individuals.  No, wait!  They might try to come to the Democratic Party and I personally do not want them.  Poor Republicans, what to do, what to do?  Now I understand why they all cry so easily.
