Kentucky Census Worker – Suicide?

The Associated Press is reporting that Kentucky law officials are looking more toward suicide than homicide in the death of Census Worker Bill Sparkman.  Mr. Sparkman was found dead in a Kentucky Forest with the word FED scrawled across his chest.  He was also hung from a tree with his feet in contact with the ground, his mouth was taped, both his hands and feet were duct taped plus his Federal Identification was taped to his neck.  Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity say although his hands were taped, they would have been slightly mobile, maybe enough to manipulate the rope.

Personally, this sounds as though state officials are trying to muddy the water and take the heat off.  The FBI has not commented, anonymously or otherwise.  So I guess we wait until someone can figure this thing out.  Perhaps these state officials are trying to get the FBI off the case so they can downplay or cover up any problem they have.  If this wasn’t murder of a government employee then the FBI would no longer have need to be involved in the case.

From the AP:

WASHINGTON – Investigators probing the death of a Kentucky census worker found hanging from a tree with the word “fed” scrawled on his chest increasingly doubt he was killed because of his government job and are pursuing the possibility he committed suicide, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Two officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case, said no final conclusions have been made in the case. In recent weeks, however, investigators have grown more skeptical that 51-year-old Bill Sparkman died at the hands of someone angry at the federal government.
