I have said it before and I will most likely say it again – the press in this country for the most part is a stain on journalism.  I am not speaking about the go out in the trenches real reporters that dig up the truth no matter where the chips may fall.  There do not seem to be very many of those anymore.  I am talking about the pretend reporters like those at Fox.

If someone like Bill O’Reilly even said the name Edward R. Murrow, he would probably choke on it.  O’Reilly and his ilk love to pontificate on the integrity of journalism, but if they were to even try to report from a live battlefield like Murrow did in WWII, they would fill their Huggies before a bullet could leave a rifle.

‘Journalists’ like those at FOX are opinion givers and entertainers and they suck even at that limited exercise.  Truth is not in their vocabulary and facts are unknown entities to them.  They obfuscate, exaggerate and outright lie so much on a daily basis that it has become their way of life.  The seek fame, not respect because fame is obtained easily while respect has to be earned.  Working to earn respect is not something of which these cretins are capable.

It shows how far journalism has fallen in this country when you realize the news for many is obtained from Comedy Central on either the Daily Show with Jon Stewart or The Colbert Report with Steven Colbert.  Even a news geek like myself has to say that Jon Stewart is conducting the best interviews to be seen lately.  Certainly better than the throw out the softball questions on Sunday news shows like Meet the Press and This Week .

For myself, it was a treat to see a real journalist like Dan Rather interviewed by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show Monday evening.  I loved hearing Rather talk about Afghanistan from a real perspective rather than with emotion filled hyperbole.  In the few minutes Dan Rather was on the stage, I learned more about what is really going on in Afghanistan than I did in a weeks coverage from CNN or Fox.
